On 25th March 2020 at the start of the first Lockdown, Sherborne Community Kitchen was born. Worried that people might not be getting a proper meal each day two people sent out 12 meals cooked by Jane at Olivers to frail and vulnerable people with treats from coffee shops donating their closing stock to us. Here is our earliest photograph:

By 3rd April we were delivering 36 meals a day. We had hand-written delivery routes and were typing up menus, food allergen labels for hours each night at home!

One year on and Sherborne Community Kitchen is a growing Charity forged from the same principles of care for our community and respect for each other. Our amazing team of 41 Volunteers including 17 drivers, 6 packers, 8 callers, 2 chef team have made packed and delivered thousands of meals. Our wonderful Trustees have led us faithfully and with humour. We have professional IT support and benefit from partnerships with local schools, businesses and the Primary Care Network. We have National Lottery Funding, a growing social media presence and a bright future ahead.
Throughout this time I have been humbled and inspired by the resourcefulness and dedication of our team.

There are many stories about how our volunteers have made a difference: sat with someone, said a kind word, found someone who has fallen, reported a concern. Our food has literally been a lifeline with high quality fresh ingredients prepared with a smile by Adrian the king of Pop Master! To our volunteers a HUGE thank you for your time and your talents to help those who need it most.

At the end of November, 'The Friends of Sherborne Preparatory School' set off on a virtual challenge of 32,400 miles to visit 'Friends Around the Globe'.  Visiting Doha, Singapore, Auckland and Tianjin, China we were able to hold virtual assemblies with our friends and learn about our amazing planet on the way. By logging our walks, runs, cycles, swims, rows and even skiing our amazing Team has propelled our schools Red Dragon across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, the heat of the Australian outback and the bitter Siberian Winter. In the coming week our intrepid Red Dragon will be coming home after a phenomenal journey without a plane, train or automobile in sight!

Please help us raise £324, 1p/mile, for the amazing Sherborne Community Kitchen who have done such an incredible job looking after our local community in these difficult times.

Volunteers throughout Sherborne have stepped up to the challenge to support their local community through charities such as Sherborne Area Community Kindness, the Sherborne food bank and of course Sherborne Community Kitchen..

Providing vital support to some of Sherborne’s most vulnerable residents, volunteers provide services including delivering shopping, providing food parcels, collecting medication, preparing fresh, locally sourced meal deliveries and doorstep chats to help with loneliness.

Jill Warburton, founder of Sherborne Community Kitchen comments, “I have been amazed at the level of commitment, dedication and selflessness shown by all the volunteers who have played such a huge part in the smooth operation of Sherborne Community Kitchen. From cooking the delicious food, taking food orders and delivering the lunches to our appreciative customers, these men and women have stepped up and offered their time to help our communities through a very tough and difficult year. I would like to thank them all on behalf of the residents of Sherborne and the surrounding villages– our response to this pandemic would not have succeeded without them. We are enormously grateful to each and every volunteer for the time and energy they have given to support our community.

I encourage anyone who would like to volunteer to sign up. Although the Prime Minister has set out the roadmap for ending lockdown restrictions, many people may still be nervous about going out, but we are all in this together and we will get through this by supporting each other.”

A young, talented flutist, Florence from Sherborne raised £200 for Sherborne Community Kitchen over the Christmas holidays by playing to the local residents in Sherborne's Cheap Street.  Florence's proud mother commented, "I have to say,  I was blown away by the kindness of all the passing shoppers.  They stopped, clapped, took pictures and said what a worthwhile cause she was raising funds for.  They were so generous". We are also so proud of Florence and her very kind contribution. Thank you so much Florence for thinking of us and for making such as wonderful donation to help us with our continued work we do to help the vulnerable in Sherborne and the surrounding areas.
