After a challenging year that none of us were expecting 12 months ago we have finally made it to Christmas.

This Christmas Day Jono and Dianne from St. Pauls Church have created a worship online via YouTube. Listen to wonderful hymns and prayers as well as a brief explanation of what Sherborne Community Kitchen have been up to this Christmas day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J9ZzACTngQ

May the wonder of the Christmas story, of God himself coming to us, bring us hope this year.

God bless,

Jono & Diane

The pupils of Sherborne Preparatory School were busy at work during term time, creating wonderful Christmas cards for us to deliver with our free three course lunches this Christmas day. We are sure our customers will enjoy reading the words written by the children. So we would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the students and teachers of Sherborne Preparatory School.

The volunteers would like to take this time to thank the organisations and individuals who have donated to help us deliver our three course Christmas lunches and surprises to our vulnerable and lonely Sherborne residents this Christmas Day. With the current restrictions on visiting loved ones this year, we are sure that these Christmas Day lunches will bring a little cheer to all that receive them, so once again a very BIG THANK YOU to you all.

Chris Loder, our local MP has been a supporter of the community kitchen from the start and was particularly pleased that the kitchen was recently awarded a grant of £10,000. Chris has also given a special mention for Sherborne Community Kitchen in his Sherborne Times column this month, including our efforts to help the Lonely of Sherborne on Christmas day.

Chris is supporting National Volunteers Day today, 5th December, not only of course for the community kitchen but for all the volunteer groups we are so fortunate to have in West Dorset.

Calling all Sherborne Carol Singers, we need your help!

Christmas 2020 will be like no other and will be a lonely and sad time for many. Sherborne Community Kitchen is delivering FREE freshly made 3 course Christmas Lunches plus FREE presents and delicious treats to 120 people who will be alone on Christmas Day.

Can you spare a couple of hours on Christmas Day? We are looking for small teams of volunteer Carol Singers to follow along behind one of our 10 drivers delivering up to 12 meals in their “route”.
Ideally we would like 3 Carol Singers for each route: a total of 30. We currently have a handful signed up. The plan is to meet at the Raleigh Hall and then follow ”your” driver as he/she completes their rounds, in another car or cars.
  • We envisage that singers will be out for a maximum of 1.5 - 2 hours on Christmas Morning (10am start at the Hall), so you will need to wrap up warmly.
  • If you are a driver with a car that would be helpful. There is free parking at Sherborne Police Station for our volunteers on Christmas Day.
  • COVID restrictions will apply throughout and you must ensure that you are prepared to remain socially distanced when singing and travelling.
  • The start and end point will be the Raleigh Hall, Digby Road and Carol Singers will collect a seasonal glass of non-alcoholic Mulled wine or a soft drink and a Mince pie on return to the Hall.
  • Once at your location you will stand at a suitable distance from each other and the customer - perhaps at the entrance to a cul sac of houses, and sing two verses of one or two well known Carols. Hopefully not just our customer but neighbours will come to the front doors of their houses and join in!
  • We would like singers to enter into the spirit of operation Christmas Cheer and wear a Christmas hat or Christmas costume if they feel brave enough.
  • There will be a briefing and rehearsal via zoom on the 23rd December.

If you love singing and can help bring Christmas Cheer on Christmas Day this year please contact Sherborne Community Kitchen
by emailing communitykitchenteam@gmail.com before 21st December.
